Nepali team uses Aquifer, Bible Well, and FIA to accelerate Bible translation

In December, an unexpected surge of activity in the Bible Well app caught the attention of the Aquifer Bible Resources team. Unique views in Nepal had skyrocketed to over 5,300 in just a few days. The team quickly discovered that around 30 Nepali and Indian translators were evaluating Bible translation tools, including the Bible Well app with SRV’s FIA (Familiarize, Internalize, Articulate) resources, to meet the growing spiritual needs of South Asia's Christian community.

The translation team had been relying on English and Hindi resources in the Bible Aquifer’s digital content library. The Aquifer team recognized that offering a Nepali version of the Bible could significantly enhance the translation process and facilitate a deeper connection with Scripture for local translators.

The unique design of the Bible Aquifer resources platform allowed the team to deliver both audio and textual Nepali versions of the Unlocked Literal Bible interlinked with FIA resources in less than a week. The Bible Aquifer is an open-source platform that makes Biblical resources available via an API (application programming interface). Content providers with openly-licensed Biblical resources contribute materials (text-based, multimedia and images) to the Bible Aquifer. This project is an excellent example of how church-based translation teams, technology providers, and Biblical content providers are working together to accelerate Bible translation efforts.

Bible Well with FIA deepens understanding for translators and teachers

Nepali translation teams ultimately chose Bible Well with FIA as a comprehensive solution, eliminating the need to switch between various applications. They also discovered the app’s usefulness for teaching and personal study.

A pastor involved in the training explained that the materials make it easier for translators to fully grasp the meaning of passages, especially when they can be seen and heard in multiple languages. He added that Bible Well with FIA helps them teach Biblical concepts and develop oral translations that are vitally important for many communities.

Bible Aquifer product manager Chad White attended the translation training in Nepal and says being there was profoundly impactful.”I’ve worked behind the scenes in Bible translation for 25 years, but interacting with the translation teams and hearing their passion for God’s Word was one of my most deeply inspiring experiences,” he explained. “Stories like this make our team want to work even harder to equip the global church with the Biblical resources needed to translate the Bible for everyone.”
